Head Cleaner: Resistance, determination and the sheer will to overcome
19/03/12 || Smalley
Your death/grind band is called “Head Cleaner”…? Oh, fucken METAL; I can’t wait to hear from VCR Quick-Rewind Machine or whatever the hell those things used to be called. Anyway, these guys are from Greece, but they’re not about to dethrone Septicflesh anytime soon; “Resistance, determination and the sheer will to overcome pointlessly long record titles” is a 7 track, 23 minute EP, with some normal-length songs, some stereotypically short, grind-y “microsongs”, and one pointlessly long, odd 8 minute epic to top it all off at the end.
It starts off decently enough with some Napalm Death-inspired riffing/vocals (Head Cleaner’s vocalist definitely has that same dry roar as ND) and nicely energetic percussion, though the first track is a bit overly repetitive. Things soon get kinda boring though, with plenty of sound but not much signifying anything, and the unwelcome appearance of pig-grunting doesn’t help my mood any either. This isn’t a bad EP overall at all, it’s just that Cleaner either can’t write catchy, memorable shit consistently enough, or they have a difficult time committing to one consistent songwriting style.
6/10: Still some good moments here though, would not turn down hearing from these guys again.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
